Viking warrior from Lewis
In 1831 they were found on the banks of the Scottish island of Lewis and others. 78 chess pieces.
Most of the originals are carved from walrus ivory and presumably come from Trondheim (Norway), dated 1150-1200 a nd.
Most of the figures can now be admired in the British Museum in London, the others are in the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.
A warrior sits on a small horse (probably Viking or Icelandic pony) on his right side he carries a spear and on the left side a shield.
The figure is a replica that was modeled on the original.
Made from polyresin (artificial stone).
